A Moment

A moment walks on tiptoe
And scurries past the thought
You wish had never occurred,
And then never forgot.

A gentle prod suffices
To make a fire roar.
A moment come and gone
Leaves nothing as before.

It answers to no questions,
It does not seek to clear
The why of its existence
The roadmap of its steer.

It meets no pits, no hurdles,
It makes no worthy foes
It sees, conquers and wrecks
A mind with darkened woes.

It tempts you to surrender,
To give up all you can
And languish in the lap of
All sorrows known to man.

A moment, so deafening,
It drowns out Reason’s voice
But who to hear and answer
Will always be your choice.
