All That Matters

This came to me as a Quora challenge. The following rhyme sets had to appear in a self-composed poem –

  • white, light, right, night
  • be, see, free, tree
  • moon, tune, soon, noon
  • weigh, day, lay, stay

This is my take –

A snowflake has had no qualms about being brittle, white,
About its fragile beauty being dissolved by sunlight.
No, all that simply matters is it descends to earth
And let its unique pattern fill one with awe and mirth.

A thunderstorm can’t bother whether it’s time be right,
As it flirts with the evening and romances the night.
No, all that simply matters, is it unleashes passion
In soils and souls it touches, gone so dry and ashen.

A butterfly does not ask how modest it should be;
It revels in flamboyance and flaunts for all to see.
No, all that simply matters is it spreads out its wings
And flies on unabated, not bother what one thinks.

It does not ask permission, nor longs to be set free.
It bonds with flower and grass blades yet not shun tower and tree.
No, all that simply matters is it bonds strong and true
And as it shares its colours, it still retains its hue.

The breeze has never envied the beauty of the moon
Nor sought the snow of jasmine, nor crickets’ lilting tune.
No, all that simply matters, is what its coolness brings,
What poets, lovers, artists have felt when a breeze sings.

Afternoons do not envy the morn for blooming soon.
They wait to step daintily into the grace of noon.
No, all that simply matters is loveliness at core;
An afternoon nourishes and embraces much more.

A composed mind spares no thought for what world’s riches weigh.
It sees the inner beauty of each mind, place and day.
No, all that simply matters is what’s under the skin,
And happiness to be true has to come from within.

A heart would never question where its loyalties lay
When life chose to abandon and still love chose to stay.
No, all that simply matters is love has chosen you;
A blessing to be counted, for such blessings are few.
